Obama is still taking the heat for his support of the mosque being built in Manhattan. What I don't understand is how people are rallying together to A) claim he must be a muslim and B) claim they don't the mosque built. Obama, while it's obvious he should have just side-stepped the issue because after all we don't want a president that stands up for a our people, at least not all of them. Obama, in his support for the mosque, merely cited the same thoughts that are written in the First Amendment of our Constitution
Furthermore, since we're such a "Christian Nation" (read: fundamentalist idiots just like those we hate), what about that Christian shit about "turning the other cheek?" What about religious freedom.
The 9/11 attackers didn't attack any of our religious institutions (unless greed is your religion) they attacked the trade center i.e. a hub of our financial transactions, and one of the biggest symbols of our avarice as a nation. We shed tears and wear our American flag t-shirts, but we're no more united than we were before the attack. what about the thousands of citizens dying in Afghanistan? oh and what about that enemy we're after, the Taliban? we played a part in the creation of this group. we helped mobilize those men back in the 80's and supplied them weapons. So it was to help them rid their country of the big bad Soviets, but only because of our own interests (OIL), not because of any altruism of the Reagan or Bush Administration. 9/11 was a horrific blight on our nation's history, but we created this war and it's no wonder those men have decided to turn their weapons on us.
here's an idea: from here on out let us not have another religious building (yes that's means no churches) be built period, no matter the faith.
